Others about Melissa

Nick Auf Der Maur

"Why did Melissa turn down the offer of an audition? Because she didn't really want to play in a band dominated by somebody else and maybe Hole's music was a tad commercial. What a girl, I thought to myself. Spunk. Her own boss. Her own mind, not swayed easily. Full of artistic integrity. Well, I suggested, artistic integrity is one thing and sometimes we should be flexible. 'But,' she said, 'you told me you have to be honest with yourself'. 'Well, yes,' I said, 'but I strongly suggest you get a hold of Mr. Big Pumpkin and tell him you've reconsidered'."

Rufus Wainwright

"Melissa Auf der Maur and I grew up together. I was in love with her and she was in love with me when we were about twelve. We were the same height at that point, which was quite small. We were nervous and embarrased and just never expressed it. The world was too fast for our love. she had a massive growth spurt and was two feet taller than I was the next year. She was developing all sort of little toys and suddenly I went from her true love to the mascot for her and her cool friends. I was her beast of burden. She had alond when she needed little jobs done and then disappeared. We're friends now, though, of course."

"I fantasized that I wanted to rescue her from a burning building, once she was rescued, the fantasy sort of ended at that point."
- in Nerve Magazine

Josh Homme

"We did get to hang out a lot with the rest of the band, especially Melissa. She's a sweetheart. Queens Of The Stone Age are such a poor band that she gave us new tubes for our amps. It was a really nice gesture, so cool. In fact, I reckon she's now part of our family, our tribe. (Metal Hammer August 1999)"

Billy Corgan

"What's so amazing about Melissa is every fear that I had about D'Arcy leaving as far as what it meant to the band internally, it's like she was in the band the whole time, and it's not taking anything away from D'Arcy in any way, but it's like this was meant to be. She somehow completed that circle.

Melissa saw us play in 1990 or 1991, and the reason I met her was because some guy that she knew whipped a bottle at me, and I walked off the stage and throttled the guy. And she came up to me after the show to apologize, and we struck up a conversation, and we've been friends ever since.

That guy throwing that bottle was some sort of weird 'meant to be,' because one day everything that went on in her life and everything that's gone on in my life were meant to come together. And what's even weirder is we have the same birthday. I'm six years older, but to be in a band with someone who's got the same birthday as you, who started playing bass because they saw you play on stage one day...I mean, that's some heavy, weird, 'only in a movie...' It's been fantastic. I can't say enough good things about her. We're fucking rocking, it's unbelievable."

Brian Molko

"I think Melissa Auf der Maur has to be one of the sexiest people in rock. It was a real shame because we were on tour when The Smashing Pumpkins played at Wembley. Typical."

Courtney Love

"Melissa's like a well-bred, quiet, pretty version of me at her age. She's a bit of a Heather. Everyone else is a geek. Patty was like a chosen geek, and me and Eric were born geeks, but Melissa's well mannered and ethereal and very spiritual, but she only knows about astrology."

Jordon Zadorozny

"Melissa was beloved in Montreal. Her father was the unofficial mayor of Montreal, so she was introduced to a bigger world early."

Shirley Manson

"Music has always been interlinked with absolutely everything. It's always been used in fashion and vice versa. I was attracted to becoming involved with the campaign because Calvin Klein were using people who aren't conventionally beautiful. I love Brian Molko - I think he looks fantastic. I spoke with Melissa Auf Der Maur before we did our shoots. These are people who I admire, so it's good company." - about the Calvin Klein shoots

Mike Turner

"And it's not like Billy and James Iha and company are suddenly going to stop being musicians. I expect solo records out of both Billy and James. Melissa Auf Der Maur is just, like, a rock goddess, so she'll turn up somewhere."
- Our Lady Peace's Mike, about the Smashing Pumpkins calling it quits.

Dave Baksh

"A beautiful famous woman, like Nina from The Cardigans, Melissa Auf der Maur or D'Arcy who used to play with the Smashing Pumpkins."
- Former Sum41 guitarist Dave, asked whom he'd like to be for one day.

Eve 6

"Melissa Auf Der Maur from Smashing Pumpkins (formerly of Hole) waded through the mud to watch our set. She's hot."
- Excerpt from Eve 6's tourdiary.
