News about "Auf Der Maur", Melissa's solo album
Among the musical friends helping her out on "Auf Der Maur" are drummers John Stanier (Helmet) and Brant Bjork (Kyuss) and guitarists Steve Durand (Tinker), Jordon Zadorozny (Blinker The Star), James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) and Eric Erlandson (Hole), as well as musical legends Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri from Queens Of The Stoneage, as Melissa told Jam Music.

About Chris Goss(Masters Of Reality), who will be the producer of "Auf Der Maur", and who produces Queens Of The Stoneage, she says: "I was looking for a partner to help me put together a very particular kind of album-thing I wanted to do: have different musicians for different songs and sculpt it as songs needed to be sculpted. Chris responded quickly and positively and said he wanted to be the guy who would help me make this record. He said he hadn't heard this kind of music coming out of a female before, actually."

Melissa plays with Indochine
In support of her duet with the French Indochine, Melissa joined them onstage in Paris yesterday. Here's a short review of the appearance, thanks to Karin!

"Well, Melissa played three titles: one duet with Indochine (Le Grand Secret) and then, two titles of her solo album that she hoped would be done before the end of the year... One acoustic ballad, with her all alone with a guitar, and then, Appetite, accompanied by Indochine, an electric song... Her music is nice, as her voice, but nothing very new... She wore a white top, very romantic, and simple jeans, she was beautiful and as the singer said "she's even beautiful when she's alone!" and she was very nice! And I, I was really looking dumb with my phone in my palm, and my hand raised! Anyway, it's was cool to see her again!"

The Chelsea audio and setlist
I have something for you that you'll really like, it's an mp3 of the 'The Chelsea' show, which I got from Caroll, and I thank her very much because I just couldn't wait to hear a piece of the set, as I know you can't either. I have put it up for download, so click here! The song is called Appetite, which was played second during the set, and by the way for the ones who didn't catch it yet: here is the setlist, and yes, it is the hand-written setlist by Melissa herself, a member from the Hole messageboard managed to get it!

Also an update on the "The Virgins", they are still gonna record, they're just waiting for some guy to join, and once he's available, they're going to record. As reported by Netphoria.

The Chelsea review
Auf der Maur's Chelsea makes a good covers band
The Chelsea (Spaceland; 260 capacity; $8)
By Troy J, Augusto

Brand new band led by former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bass player Melissa Auf der Maur and featuring A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lenchantin, drummer Sam Maloney (Hole, Motley Crue) and a bleached-blond guitar player named Radio made its live debut Wednesday.

While the names of the players in the band may have been more than enough to fill this small Silverlake club (with a fair number of people unable to get in) and lure a large number of pro photographers, the music itself was little more than pleasantly mopey and blurry garage rock with little original manner.

The players, who are otherwise a talented lot, appeared lost and confused on more than one occasion, and at least one tune was restarted after someone blew the opening. Auf der Maur's early pronouncement that "We're just a bunch of girlfriends who got together last week" served to explain the seeming lack of preparation.

Auf der Maur does have a nice singing voice (remember her backing efforts in the Hole episode of "Unplugged" on MTV?), and the lanky performer moves and plays her guitar with a visually striking and assured style that's sure to find favor with those put off by the more unwashed inclinations of her former boss Courtney Love.

But there was little indication this bunch has much of a songwriting well to draw from. Of the seven full songs played, two were covers (Devo's 'Gates of Steel' and Billy Idol's 'Eyes Without a Face') and most of the others lacked sufficient energy or inspiration to make much mark.

'Race You' sounded something like L7 mixed with the Jesus Lizard, while closer 'People Say' was a big mess as the four women never quite got their efforts in synch with one another. The yearning ballad 'Good News' with Lenchantin on violin, was the best of the original tunes, while the rearranged Billy Idol song, featuring two bass players, was the short set's most rocking effort. Presented inhouse.

Band: Melissa Auf der Maur, Paz Lenchantin, Radio, Samantha Maloney. Reviewed Feb. 6, 2002.

The Chelsea
crowdsurfer.com posted this article about The Chelsea:

Just an update on The Chelsea, the all-girl supergroup featuring Melissa Auf der Maur (Hole; Smashing Pumpkins), Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle) and Samantha Maloney (Hole; Motley Crue):

The band's previously announced show in Los Angeles on 6th February will take place at Spaceland. Former Need guitarist Radio Sloan will also be appearing in the band.

Speaking to Rolling Stone recently, Melissa said, "Me and Paz will be doing a lot of singing in the band, but both Radio and Sam sing too. The joy of it is me and Paz will be switching back and forth between bass, guitar and baritone guitar. There's a lot of potential there, and they're amazing girls and so talented."

The busy Auf der Maur has recorded a version of the Poison ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" for the soundtrack to the forthcoming comedy movie Run Ronnie Run!, as well as a cover of Should I Say Or Should I Go for Oliver Stone’s next movie Beyond Borders. She has also covered the Billy Idol track "Eyes Without A Face" for an unnamed teen thriller.
